Good News: Getting a Korean Visa Is Now Much Easier for Select Filipinos

Packing your bags for kimchi pancakes and K-pop concerts in South Korea? We’ve got good news for you: A smoother journey may await, because getting a Korean visa is now easier, faster, and generally simpler for Filipinos who fall under certain traveller categories.

Starting 1 Feb 2024, some Filipinos won’t have to submit financial documents like bank statements and income tax returns anymore to apply for a Korean tourist visa. Let’s be honest — skipping this step is a huge time- and stress-reliever! So, who gets to dodge the paperwork hassle? Keep reading to see if you’re one of the lucky few.

Elected officials (from senators to mayors) and high-ranking government officials (think assistant secretaries and generals) get a VIP pass, along with their immediate families. Just show your certificate of employment or appointment, and proof of family ties.

Travellers who are PRC card holders also don’t have to hand in financial documents. That means doctors, lawyers, accountants, and other licensed professionals can simply flash their valid PRC or IBP ID to prove their financial muscle. Immediate family coming along? Show proof of your relationship, and you’re good to go.

Certain credit card holders also benefit with an easier path to visa application. If you’ve got a BDO Gold or Elite credit card, then you’re in luck! Just show a copy of your card and the latest statements, and convince them you’re good for the trip. Family in tow? Same drill — proof of relationship is key.

Remember: Even though these categories get a financial document pass, the usual suspects like your passport, photos, and application forms are still mandatory. And hey, if you have those financial documents and want to play it extra safe, feel free to submit them along with your other requirements.

Bonus tip: Live in Palawan or Mindanao? Filipinos who live in these places can skip the long trip to Manila starting 1 Feb, because the Korean Embassy is accepting visa applications via mail from those regions.

There are very few things Celia won’t do for a good story, but her favourite ones always involve the beach, animals, or any type of outdoor activity. She’s been writing for as long as she can remember, and can usually be found typing away at home with her cute dogs at her feet. Away from work, she spends most of her time trying out every hobby she can get her hands on, from running to crocheting to baking (she’s pretty okay at most things that don't involve cooking).
