MRT 7 Could Cut Travel Time Between Quezon City and Bulacan to Just 35 Minutes by 2027

Travelling between Quezon City and Bulacan could become much faster in the coming years, as the long awaited MRT 7 project is targeting the start of operations for its initial stations by the second quarter of 2027. Recent clarifications from the Department of Transportation have also confirmed that the San Jose del Monte Station remains part of the project's approved alignment.

According to the latest update, 12 of the line's 14 stations, stretching from North Avenue in Quezon City to Sacred Heart in Bulacan, are expected to begin operations first. The remaining Tala and San Jose del Monte stations are currently targeted for completion and opening in 2028.

Once fully operational, MRT 7 is expected to reduce travel time between Quezon City and San Jose del Monte from as much as three hours by road to approximately 35 minutes by rail. For commuters and travellers who regularly experience heavy traffic along Commonwealth Avenue, that could make a significant difference.

What is MRT 7?

MRT 7 is a 22 kilometre railway line designed to connect northern Metro Manila and Bulacan through a faster and more efficient public transport system. The line will eventually include 14 stations, linking North Avenue in Quezon City to San Jose del Monte City in Bulacan.

The railway is expected to help ease congestion along Commonwealth Avenue, one of the busiest roads in Metro Manila. Government planners estimate that the line could serve up to 850,000 passengers daily once fully operational, making it one of the country's most significant transport infrastructure projects.

Recent updates have also highlighted the progress of Batasan Station, with the Department of Transportation previously reporting that the station had reached near completion and that its facilities, including turnstile gates, ticket counters, and train platforms, were already in place.
