In an exciting move for education and innovation, the University of the Philippines (UP) is expanding its presence in the south with the new UP System Technology Innovation Campus, located in Dasmariñas, Cavite. Officially breaking ground on 14 Sep 2024, this highly anticipated campus is set to become a hub for technopreneurship and innovation, making waves in both academic and business circles.
The first phase of the campus construction comes with a budget of P300 million, funded by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH). The initial plans feature a six-story building covering a total floor area of 22,932 square metres. Located within Villar City, a 1,500-hectare urban development that spans Muntinlupa, Las Piñas, Cavite, and Laguna, this new campus is part of a larger vision to integrate lifestyle retail, office spaces, residential areas, and leisure components. This prime location ensures that the campus will not only serve as an academic hub but also foster an environment where education, industry, and community intersect.
The UP System Technology Innovation Campus has been in the works since 2016, when a public-private partnership was formed to develop this project. According to the original plans announced by former UP President Alfredo Pascual, the campus will occupy a five-hectare property within Villar City’s University Town. With the DPWH overseeing the construction, the campus is designed to promote collaboration and innovation within the CALABARZON region (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon).
One of the most exciting aspects of the new campus is its focus on fostering innovation through education, training, and research. It will be home to the first School of Technopreneurship in the Philippines, marking a major milestone for the country’s higher education landscape. The goal is to equip students with the skills and opportunities needed to bring their ideas and inventions from concept to market, contributing to the Philippines' global competitiveness.

Inspired by UP’s "Knowledge-based Development and Governance" initiative, this new campus underscores the university’s commitment to investing in human and knowledge capital to drive sustainable economic growth. With this new development, UP is not only expanding its reach but also cementing its role as a key player in shaping the future of innovation in the Philippines.
