There are many other beautiful places in the Philippines outside its capital, but these 5 destinations will let you enjoy weekend trips with great ease.

Travel to Antique is about to become much more convenient. The Department of Transportation has announced that the upgraded Evelio B. Javier Airport in Antique is scheduled to open by mid-October 2025. The airport covers 2,224 square metres and can accommodate over 300 passengers, a significant increase from its previous capacity of just 64.

Antique is one of the Philippines’ hidden gems, known for its pristine beaches, lush mountains, and historic towns. With the new airport, Filipino travellers can reach the province faster and more comfortably, avoiding long land trips from nearby cities such as Iloilo or San Jose de Buenavista. This opens up more opportunities for weekend getaways or eco-tourism adventures. Popular attractions include the white sands of Malalison Island, the scenic Bugang River in Pandan, and the historic streets of San Jose de Buenavista.

The upgraded terminal offers additional check-in counters, spacious restrooms, and accessible features for persons with disabilities. Travellers can expect a smoother, more comfortable airport experience compared with the previous terminal. Flight schedules and airlines are expected to be announced soon, but this development means Filipino travellers can plan trips to Antique more easily and make the most of their time in the province.

For those planning a trip, the best months to visit are from November to May when the weather is dry. Local transport options like van services or tricycles can help visitors reach tourist spots conveniently. With the new airport, Antique is set to become a more accessible destination for eco-adventures, cultural trips, and relaxing beach holidays, giving travellers more reasons to explore this underrated province.
