Cheers to a whopping number of 20 holidays and 13 long weekends in the Philippines! Filipinos have all reasons to rejoice this 2015 as well! Feeling the vacation vibe? Plan your getaways now!

Christmas is the perfect time to plan a little getaway, and Subic Bay is adding something special to the holiday calendar this year. On 19 December 2026, the coastal destination will host the LUMINA Water & Sky Lantern Festival, an evening celebration featuring thousands of glowing lanterns, live entertainment, and a fireworks display.
Taking place at the Subic Bay Boardwalk, the festival invites families, couples, and groups of friends to come together for an evening filled with light, music, and Christmas cheer. Visitors can look forward to a combination of floating water lanterns and tethered LED sky lanterns, creating a glowing spectacle along the bay.
Whether you're looking for a different way to celebrate the holidays or simply want an excuse to visit Subic, this could be an interesting addition to your December travel plans.
The highlight of the evening will be the thousands of illuminated lanterns displayed across the water and sky. Guests will have the opportunity to write their wishes, prayers, or personal messages on water lanterns before joining the coordinated lantern ceremony.
The festival will also feature tethered LED sky lanterns, offering the appearance of glowing lanterns overhead without the use of open flames or uncontrolled releases. According to the organisers, the water lanterns will use biodegradable materials, while a retrieval team will collect them after the ceremony.
Beyond the lantern displays, visitors can expect a variety of activities throughout the festival grounds, including:
Live entertainment: Enjoy guest artist performances, acoustic music, and live saxophone performances.
Fireworks display: Watch the evening conclude with a fireworks show over Subic Bay.
Kids' activities: Younger visitors can enjoy a special children's show, games, and interactive activities.
Food and drinks: Browse food booths and refreshments available throughout the venue.
Photo opportunities: Capture memories around the illuminated festival grounds and dedicated photo areas.
Art and retail booths: Discover local products, gifts, and other festival finds.
Gates are scheduled to open at 3 PM, giving visitors time to explore the festival village before the evening's main attractions begin.
LUMINA also brings an interesting achievement to its Subic edition. Its organiser, Vibe Events Management Corporation, previously earned a Guinness World Records title for the Largest Display of Water Lanterns during an event held at The Lakeshore in Pampanga on 10 May 2026.
The previous celebration featured 11,063 water lanterns, bringing together thousands of participants for a coordinated display.
The upcoming Subic edition will bring the lantern experience to a different setting, this time combining floating water lanterns with a tethered LED sky lantern display. While the previous Pampanga event established the world record, the Subic celebration is being presented as a Christmas edition rather than a newly announced record attempt.

Those interested in attending can choose from four ticket categories, depending on the lantern experience they want to enjoy.
Here are the ticket prices currently listed on the official event website:
Ticket Category | Price |
|---|---|
Eco Regular | ₱499 |
Sky Standard | ₱999 |
Group Pass | ₱1,199 |
Platinum Pass | ₱1,999 |
Each ticket includes access to the festival, but the lantern kits vary depending on the category.
The Eco Regular pass includes a biodegradable water lantern, while the Sky Standard ticket comes with a tethered LED sky lantern kit. Those attending with family or friends can consider the Group Pass, which includes a water lantern kit for each ticket holder.
For a more complete experience, the Platinum Pass includes both water and sky lantern kits, along with an exclusive boat photo opportunity surrounded by the lantern displays.
Visitors are encouraged to book ahead, as ticket availability may change closer to the event. You can check the latest prices, inclusions, and booking details through the official LUMINA website.
If you're travelling to Subic for the festival, consider turning your visit into a weekend getaway. The area has several attractions and activities worth adding to your itinerary, especially if you're visiting with family or friends.
For an adventure-filled day, head to Ocean Adventure, a marine-themed park where visitors can enjoy animal encounters and educational presentations. Families can also consider Zoobic Safari, which offers wildlife encounters and safari-inspired attractions.
If you prefer a more relaxed itinerary, spend some time around Subic Bay's waterfront, explore its dining spots, or book a stay at one of the area's hotels and resorts. Camayan Beach is another option for travellers who want to enjoy some time by the coast.
With the festival scheduled for a Saturday, visitors coming from Manila and nearby provinces may also consider arriving earlier in the day or booking an overnight stay to make the most of their trip.
Subic Bay is accessible by road from Metro Manila and other parts of Central Luzon. Travellers coming from Manila can take a bus bound for Olongapo or Subic, then arrange local transportation to the boardwalk.
Those travelling by private vehicle can also drive towards the Subic Bay Freeport Zone. However, it's best to check the latest traffic conditions, parking arrangements, and event-specific transport announcements before leaving.
For visitors coming from other provinces, planning accommodation and transportation ahead of time is recommended, particularly as the festival date falls during the busy Christmas travel season.

If you're looking for a different way to spend the holidays, the LUMINA Water & Sky Lantern Festival offers an opportunity to enjoy an evening of lights, entertainment, and festive activities by the bay.
Mark your calendar for 19 December 2026 and consider making Subic your next Christmas getaway destination. Whether you're attending with your family, planning a date night, or catching up with friends, the festival offers another reason to explore what Subic has to offer this holiday season.
