Baguio is one of the few places in the country where Filipinos, particularly those based in Metro Manila, can make a quick drive to for a cool mountain weather. This time, however, the city is experiencing a decrease in temperature much earlier than expected, marking the start of the Amihan season in the coming days.
In the morning of 4 October 2018, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported a 13.8°C weather for the city. “Recent analyses showed a significant weakening of the southwest monsoon winds over the last few days. With this development, the southwest monsoon season or known as ‘Habagat’ has ended,” said PAGASA Administrator Vicente Malano in a press release.
The ‘Summer Capital of the Philippines’ normally experiences the transitioning by mid-November up to February. According to PAGASA’s weekly weather forecast, Baguio will continue to feel low temperatures from Monday, with 16°C, up to Friday, with 14°C. The city recorded its lowest temperature so far this year at 12.8°C in January, while the lowest in its history was 6.3°C in January 1961.
