Looking back, Four Sisters and a Wedding wasn’t just a movie. It became a comfort watch, a meme source, and a story many Filipinos grew up quoting. Years later, Star Cinema expanded the Salazar sisters’ universe with Four Sisters Before the Wedding, the prequel that takes audiences back to where all the family tension began. Originally released in cinemas in 2020, the film later became available for streaming on Netflix Philippines, giving fans another reason to revisit the story.
Aptly titled Four Sisters Before the Wedding, the movie allows fans of the original 2013 film to revisit the sibling rivalry and the all too relatable problems of Teddie (Toni Gonzaga), Bobbie (Bea Alonzo), Alex (Angel Locsin), and Gabbie (Shaina Magdayao), this time through their younger years.
The prequel, which takes place 10 years before the events of Four Sisters and a Wedding, stars Charlie Dizon as Teddie, Alexa Ilacad as Bobbie, Gillian Vicencio as Alex, and Belle Mariano as Gabbie. Carmina Villaroel and Dominic Ochoa also play the younger versions of the Salazar sisters’ parents.
According to ABS CBN Films managing director Olivia Lamasan, the actresses playing the younger Salazar sisters were able to capture the “essence” of the original cast.
In the prequel, the Salazar sisters learn that their parents’ marriage is on the rocks. Together, the teenage girls plot to stop their mother and father from separating before they celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary.
Just like the first movie that many viewers still revisit today, the 2020 Filipino comedy drama explores the relationship of the Salazar siblings as they navigate first love, heartbreak, parental favouritism, and the events that eventually lead to the emotional confrontation seen in Four Sisters and a Wedding.
Directed by Mae Cruz Alviar and written by Vanessa Valdez, Four Sisters Before the Wedding was released in select SM Cinemas and CityMall Cinemas across the country in 2020. The movie later became available on digital platforms including KTX.ph, iWant TFC, Sky Cable PPV, and Cignal PPV, and remains a popular rewatch for fans revisiting the Salazar sisters’ story years later.
