GCash Pet Insurance: Here’s Everything You Should Know

Hey there, pawrents! We’re all familiar with how costly veterinary expenses can get. As a dog owner myself, I’ve experienced paying more than ₱10,000 for a single vet medical bill. It was when my dog, Olivia, had something wrong with her stomach and was pooping all over the place. I remember asking myself then, “How come when I’m the one having LBM, I just drink loperamide?”

But we know how it is. We love our furbabies so dearly that we’re willing to splurge for their well-being. Now, I’m more than happy to be the bearer of good news! If you haven’t heard, GCash is offering affordable pet insurance for as low as ₱266 per month.

Pet insurance coverage

The GCash pet insurance plan is quite extensive. Its coverage ranges from dog accidents to deaths; it even covers owners in case something unfortunate happens to you!

1. Medical reimbursement

The primary coverage for the Gcash pet insurance is their medical reimbursement. This coverage includes medical expenses incurred to treat or diagnose pets due to illness or accident. Fees from consultation, tests, scans, surgery, hospitalisation, and medication are all considered. However, their pet insurance policy excludes pre-existing conditions. You will also fill up a form to indicate any history of sickness or operation if your dog had any.

Amount of reimbursement: Maximum of ₱30,000 per occurrence and ₱100,000 in aggregate

2. Cruciate ligament injuries

Dogs are often highly active and energetic, which makes them prone to accidents. Fortunately, Gcash covers these types of mishaps! The cruciate ligament injury covers treatment and diagnostics when the ligament that serves to stabilise the knee joint gets injured. Take note, though, that any injury inflicted by you or any of your family members will not be covered!

Amount of reimbursement: Maximum of ₱15,000 per leg

3. Burial assistance

Unfortunately, the pet insurance death coverage by Gcash is quite strict. It only covers burial services if your dog passes away through euthanasia.

Amount of reimbursement: Maximum of ₱10,000.

4. Owner’s liability

Has your dog caused you any trouble? My Olivia has done a number on my belongings! Fortunately, her only victims (so far!) have been my shoes, many slippers, and several household items, which she munched to destruction. 

If your dog tends to be aggressive, I suggest you sign him/her for insurance. Insurance can cover actual or compensatory expenses if you become legally liable for your dog injuring someone or damaging others’ belongings.

Amount of reimbursement: Maximum of ₱50,000 per occurrence and ₱250,000 in aggregate

5. Personal accident cover

This type of coverage includes the owner’s accidental death, disablement, and dismemberment sustained within the coverage period. 

Amount of reimbursement: ₱50,000 for accidental death, ₱50,000 for permanent disability, and ₱50,000 for disablement or dismemberment.

Length of coverage

The pet insurance plan can cover you for a minimum of one month up to a year. You’ll be shouldering a minimum of ₱650 per month, which decrements as you choose a longer period of coverage. For a one year plan, the total cost is ₱3,200. 

Requirements for availing

• Your dog’s age must be from six months up to eight years old.
• Only home pets are allowed. Dogs used for military, police, or security services cannot be covered. The plan does not cover stunt dogs and those raised for fighting and sports.
• Before availing of the plan, your dog must have extensive vaccination (e.g. 5-in-1), anti-rabies, and deworming shots.
