GrabFood Prank Gone Right: How One Act of Kindness Inspired Pinoys to Give

Sometimes, all it takes is one act of kindness to restore our faith in humanity. On April Fools’ Day, amid the shenanigans happening around the world, a kind soul carried out what could be considered the most remarkable “prank” of all time.

Instead of having his GrabFood orders delivered to him, 28-year old Vberni Regalado surprised GrabFood riders by telling them they could eat the food for dinner. His creative act of generosity touched the hearts of many and enkindled some kindred spirits to do the same.

Behind the GrabFood prank: more than just a random act of kindness

There have been numerous bogus cases of food delivery bookings in the past, wherein pranksters ordered unpaid food for their targets without their consent. Unfortunately, as inconvenient as it was for the victims, the delivery riders always got the short end of the stick. So finally, Regalado decided it was high time to end this hooliganism; to counter this, he used April Fools’ Day to prank GrabFood riders — in a good way.

“I booked some food deliveries, paid for them, and asked the riders to not deliver it to my home — because it’s theirs to bring home to their families and have an amazing dinner tonight,” Regalado said on his now-viral post on social media. His act of kindness quickly spread on social media, creating a ripple effect on other GrabFood customers.

“We can’t be heroes to everybody, but if we can make someone smile and be a blessing to them, even just for a day, then we are doing a great job,” Regalado added. In response, Grab retweeted his GrabFood prank post, saying that Regalado deserves a “5-star review” for his actions.
