Hot Wheels Designer Brendon Vetuskey Meets Filipino Collectors at Kingsford Hotel Manila

For many of us, Hot Wheels started with a favourite little car, a first collection or hours spent racing diecast cars across the living room floor.

For some, that childhood fascination never really went away.

Instead, it grew into a lifelong passion for collecting, trading and discovering the stories behind every tiny car. That shared nostalgia recently brought local and international collectors together with Hot Wheels diecast designer and Red Line Club design lead Brendon Vetuskey at Kingsford Hotel Manila.

A special evening for Hot Wheels collectors

Vetuskey met local and international collectors and enthusiasts during an exclusive private dinner held in partnership with Metrics PH, organiser of the Philippines Hot Wheels Collectors Convention.

The gathering brought together collectors, families, business leaders, tourism stakeholders and hospitality representatives, creating an evening where a shared passion for Hot Wheels became a way for different generations and communities to connect.

For longtime collectors, the dinner was also a chance to meet the designer behind some of the cars that have become part of their collections. Vetuskey joined Mattel in 2007 and has contributed to numerous Hot Wheels designs. He currently serves as the diecast design lead for Red Line Club vehicles.

During the evening, Vetuskey shared insights into the design and creative process behind Hot Wheels cars, followed by a presentation and interaction with collectors and invited guests. He also signed Hot Wheels memorabilia, giving attendees a personal memento from the occasion.

When childhood memories become a collector community

What makes Hot Wheels special is that the hobby can stay with you long after childhood.

A small diecast car can become a prized collectible, a conversation starter or a reminder of a favourite car from years ago. For collectors, the excitement can come from finding a particular model, adding a new piece to a collection or simply talking about cars with people who share the same passion.

Vetuskey reflected on that connection during the dinner.

“You might meet someone and start talking about your favourite Hot Wheels from childhood or the first car you ever collected. Those stories and shared memories are what makes collecting special.”

That sense of community is also what Metrics PH hopes to foster, bringing collectors and enthusiasts together to exchange stories, share collections and celebrate a hobby that continues to cross generations.

Bringing generations together

Hot Wheels may have started as a childhood toy for many collectors, but the passion clearly does not stop there.

Parents can share the hobby with their children, longtime collectors can meet newer enthusiasts, and kids can experience the same excitement that their parents once had. At the Kingsford gathering, collectors, families and kids and kids at heart came together over something as simple as a tiny car.

The cars may be small, but the memories attached to them can last for years.

The private dinner also showed how hotels can become spaces for communities to come together through shared interests and experiences.

“Hotels can be more than places where people stay. We can become part of the destination experience and create spaces where communities, businesses and visitors connect,” said Jorold Montelibano, General Manager of Kingsford Hotel Manila.

Through its partnership with Metrics PH, Kingsford supported the local collector community while opening up possibilities for future events and experiences that bring people together in Manila.

Some childhood passions never really grow up
