If you are currently budgeting for your next family holiday or looking for a clean, orderly place to take a break from the Manila grind, you might want to look at Isabela. We all know the struggle of visiting a popular spot only to find overflowing bins and dusty roads. It ruins the mood and the photos. However, one city in the north is proving that local tourism can actually be tidy and efficient.
The City of Ilagan has officially entered the Hall of Fame after winning the ASEAN Clean Tourist City Award for the third consecutive time. This grand slam win covers the 2026 to 2028 period, following previous wins in 2022 and 2024. For those of us who travel, this means the city has maintained a high standard of public hygiene and environmental safety for over six years straight.

Being an ASEAN level awardee is a specific title. It means the city is hitting targets for waste management, green spaces, and clean public toilets. This makes a massive difference when you are walking around all day or looking for a place to eat with your kids. Because the city has won three times in a row, it is now considered a Hall of Famer in sustainable tourism.
This recognition is not just for show; it reflects how the local government manages the daily grind of urban life. Visitors can expect better air quality and well-maintained public parks, which are essential for those travelling with elderly parents or young children who need frequent rest stops.

Aside from its cleanliness, the city recently showed off its culture during the Bambanti Festival 2026. The festival is a tribute to the farmers who provide our daily rice and corn. This year, the city broke records by serving a massive portion of Pancit Cabagan that weighed between 250 to 300 kilos, prepared by local experts to feed the crowd.
The city's efforts to boost tourism are paying off in more ways than one. During the recent festivities at the Sky Park, several local entries took home top prizes. Their Giant Bambanti scarecrow entry won the Category A championship, while a group of young locals won first place for Makan Ti Isabela with their unique local delicacy. The city also secured the title for the Best Festival Queen Costume, solidifying its creative reputation.
The city also crowned its new tourism ambassadress, Prima Joy Alamban from the town of Tumauini. During the pageant held at Sky Park, she spoke about innovations through tourism. She highlighted how supporting farmers, who are the backbone of society, with new machinery allows the tourism industry to grow naturally. Her win adds a fresh face to the city's push for agricultural tourism.

If you are planning to visit the Corn Capital of the Philippines, there are a few things to keep in mind to make your trip smoother. For your accommodation, it is best to look for hotels near The Capital Arena. This area serves as the hub for sports tourism and major events, putting you right in the middle of the action.
When it comes to food, you cannot visit without trying the authentic Pancit Cabagan. It is a heavy, savoury noodle dish that is a staple for locals and is perfect for fueling up after a long day of sightseeing. You should also be mindful of local etiquette. Because it is an ASEAN Clean Tourist City, expect strict rules on littering. It is important to keep your rubbish with you until you find a bin to help the city maintain its hard earned Hall of Fame status.
