There are many other beautiful places in the Philippines outside its capital, but these 5 destinations will let you enjoy weekend trips with great ease.

As someone who grew up Catholic, I never expected to come across a place like this while exploring Japan.
When I first heard there was a bar in Tokyo called The Church, I honestly thought people were joking. Seeing photos of its glowing cross, stained glass inspired windows, wooden pews, and altar style DJ booth made me pause for a second. It looked so much like a church that I had to double check if it was real.
Then I discovered the surprising truth. Despite its appearance, The Church isn't a place of worship. It's a church themed bar and nightclub in Shibuya that's become one of Tokyo's most unique nightlife destinations.

Located in Dogenzaka, just a short walk from Shibuya Scramble Crossing, The Church has become a popular stop for both locals and travellers looking for a nightlife experience unlike any other.
Walking inside, you'll find wooden pews, stained glass inspired décor, soaring ceilings, candle style lighting, and an altar transformed into a DJ booth. Instead of hymns, the venue fills with house, techno, and EDM as visitors enjoy drinks and dance into the early hours.
As someone familiar with Catholic churches, I couldn't help but be fascinated by how closely the venue recreates the atmosphere while giving it an entirely different purpose. It was definitely one of those moments that made me stop and say, "I didn't know something like this existed."

AAs of 2026, The Church is open daily from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM.
The venue regularly hosts house, techno, and EDM DJs, with themed parties held throughout the week. Drinks generally start from around ¥700 (approximately ₱270), while some nights charge a ¥1,000 (approximately ₱390) entrance fee that may include one complimentary drink. Prices and admission vary depending on the event.
If you're planning to visit, it's worth checking the venue's official Instagram for the latest schedules and events.
It's easy to see why The Church has gone viral across TikTok and Instagram. Many first time visitors react the same way I did. They assume it's an actual church before learning it's a themed nightlife venue.
Naturally, the concept has sparked different reactions online. Some admire the creativity behind the design, while others see it differently because of its religious inspiration. Regardless of where people stand, there's no denying that it's one of the most unusual bars you'll find in Tokyo.
Whether you're Catholic, belong to another faith, or are simply curious about unique places around the world, The Church is certainly a venue that leaves a lasting impression.
For me, it wasn't about judging the concept. It was the surprise of discovering that a place resembling a church could exist as a nightlife venue. Love it or not, it's another reminder that Japan has a way of creating experiences you probably never imagined.
