Jollibee Chickenjoy Hailed Among the Best Fried Chicken Brands in the U.S. — Again!

Here’s something to chew on today. Jollibee Chickenjoy ranks as one of the best fast food chicken brands in the United States (U.S.). We couldn’t be prouder!

An American lifestyle website, redbook, released its most recent best fast food fried chicken list to celebrate the U.S.’s National Fried Chicken Day on 14 Oct 2020. Jollibee Chickenjoy ranks fourth on the list of 12, outdoing the likes of McDonald’s, Kentucky Fried Chicken, and Shake Shack.

True to the crispy chicken dish loved by Filipinos and foreigners alike, Jollibee Chickenjoy is described as a signature offering of a “Filipino fried chicken chain that’s about to take over the United States”.

This isn’t the first time that Jollibee Chickenjoy has gained praise beyond Philippine shores, though.

Last year, Jollibee figured prominently in a feature by The New York Times. Its publication followed the opening of the Filipino fast food chain’s first Manhattan branch in late 2018. Here’s a sneak peek of the article, which pretty much read like an ode to beloved Jollibee Chickenjoy; “[t]he pleasures of Chickenjoy, as it’s called, are immediate: The sheath of skin is as craggy as a thunderhead, crannies and crunch multiplying. Underneath, the flesh is juicy, with its own generous measure of salt and secret seasonings, if not quite as potent as the skin’s.”

On the other hand, in 2017, another American food website called Food Beast tagged Jollibee Chickenjoy as among the best fried chicken dishes in the U.S. The list placed Jollibee Chickenjoy in the top three!

Jollibee through the years

Jollibee started out as a small Filipino franchise specialising in ice cream and burgers in the late ’70s. Its first branch in Cubao opened with the Yumburger as its poster product, alongside chilled creations of a local ice cream brand.

Fast forward to 2020: Jollibee has become an icon worldwide, boasting 37 branches in the U.S. alone. We’re not even going to try counting how many branches there are in the Philippines. There are just too many!

Alyosha Robillos

In Russia, Alyosha is a boy's name popularised by literary greats Dostoevsky and Tolstoy—but this particular Alyosha is neither Russian nor a boy. She is a writer from the Philippines who loves exploring the world as much as she likes staying at home. Her life's mission is to pet every friendly critter there is. When she isn't busy doing that, she sniffs out stories and scribbles away on the backs of old receipts. She is an advocate of many things: culture and heritage, the environment, skincare and snacking, to name a few. She will work for lifetime supplies of french fries and coffee. Or yogurt. Or cheese, preferably Brie.
