If your parents or titas have ever told stories about the Love Bus, you might be curious about why people are so fond of it. Good news. The iconic blue bus from the 1970s is set to make a major comeback in Metro Manila.
Even better, if you take the MRT-3 regularly and find yourself constantly stuck in long queues, a transport upgrade is finally on the way. More Dalian trains are about to be deployed, which could make your daily ride a lot more comfortable.
Here is what you need to know about these upcoming changes in public transport.

The Love Bus was a popular air-conditioned city bus that became a cultural icon in Manila during the 70s. With its bright blue design and relaxed vibe, it gave people a more stylish and comfortable way to get around the city.
Now, it is coming back as a free public service. President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. announced that a pilot run of the revived Love Bus will launch by the end of 2025, starting in Metro Manila and eventually expanding to other major cities.
This revival is part of a broader plan to improve public transport and make it more accessible for everyone. The government is aiming to provide not just more options but better-quality rides for commuters in busy urban areas.
Here is some long-awaited news for daily commuters. More Dalian trains are finally being added to the MRT-3 line.
Back in 2014, the Philippine government bought 48 train cars from China. However, most of them remained unused due to technical and safety issues. As of July 2025, only three train sets, which equals nine cars, are currently operating on the MRT-3.
That is about to change. The President confirmed that more of these trains will be deployed through 2025 and 2026, once they have passed all the necessary checks and adjustments.
Once fully deployed, these trains are expected to reduce waiting times from 4 minutes to around 2.5 minutes, which would make a big difference during peak hours. This upgrade is expected to help serve over 380,000 daily MRT-3 passengers more efficiently.
If you are wondering how much this will cost taxpayers, the answer is good news. The rehabilitation and testing of the Dalian trains did not involve any additional cost to the government.
International safety company TÜV Rheinland led the inspections, while Sumitomo Corporation, which handles MRT-3 maintenance, conducted the technical work to ensure the trains meet the system’s standards.
The Department of Transportation has also asked Sumitomo to speed up testing so that more trains can start operating as soon as possible.

These transport improvements could change the way people experience the city. Whether you are heading to work, school, or just going around for food and fun, better public transport means less stress and more convenience.
The return of the Love Bus adds a unique throwback experience for commuters. It is not just a ride, it is a part of Manila’s history being brought back for a new generation.
At the same time, the deployment of more Dalian trains means less crowding on the MRT, shorter waits, and an overall smoother travel experience.
Metro Manila’s transport system is finally getting the upgrade it needs. The Love Bus revival and the rollout of Dalian trains are two big steps towards a better and more commuter-friendly future.
If these plans go smoothly, public transport could soon be safer, faster, and more enjoyable for everyone. Whether you are commuting every day or just passing through the city, it is exciting to think about what lies ahead.
