Originally known as the World Pyro Olympics, the event undoubtedly stands out as a multi-week fireworks extravaganza. Each night, two different countries would battle it out with their most awe-inspiring fireworks displays, all choreographed to a captivating musical soundtrack.

The news of the competition’s return has social media buzzing with excitement. It’s been four years since the last competition was held in 2019 at SM City Clark. The event featured breathtaking displays from a total of 10 countries, including China, Germany, and Poland.

This year, participating countries include the Netherlands, South Korea, Australia, Belgium, Germany, Portugal, China, and the United Kingdom

Meanwhile, the schedule is as follows:

  • 11 May: Opening Exhibition (Philippines), Royal Fireworks (The Netherlands)
  • 18 May: Faseecom Co., Ltd. (South Korea), Skylighter Fireworx (Australia)
  • 25 May: H.C. Pyrotechnics (Belgium), Steffes Ollig Feurwerk (Germany)
  • 1 Jun: Macedos Pirotecnico (Portugal), Liuyang Jinsheng Fireworks Co., Ltd. (China)
  • 8 Jun: Pyrotex Fireworks (United Kingdom), Closing Exhibition (Philippines)

Keep your competitive spirit at bay, though: While the host country doesn’t compete, they traditionally save the grand finale for themselves, treating the audience to a spectacular fireworks show on the last night.

Celia Grace Nachura

There are very few things Celia won’t do for a good story, but her favourite ones always involve the beach, animals, or any type of outdoor activity. She’s been writing for as long as she can remember, and can usually be found typing away at home with her cute dogs at her feet. Away from work, she spends most of her time trying out every hobby she can get her hands on, from running to crocheting to baking (she’s pretty okay at most things that don't involve cooking).
