The only plastic we need for travel.
Ever had that moment when you hang your freshly washed clothes outside, only to see dark clouds rolling in minutes later? Yup, outdoor laundry in the Philippines is basically a gamble. One wrong guess and your white shirt ends up looking like a soggy mess.
So here I was, doing my laundry this week, and guess what? It has rained every single afternoon for four days straight. I needed to know when I could finally hang my clothes out to dry without them turning into a soggy, musty smell, or amoy kulob nightmare because honestly, nothing is more annoying to me than smelling wet, stale laundry. Perfect timing, I decided to try out the “Maglalaba Ba?” app.
Created by John Daeniele Satsatin, a fourth-year Computer Science student from Cavite State University, the app is designed to help people figure out the best time to do laundry. Unlike other weather apps that are full of confusing charts and data, “Maglalaba Ba?” keeps it simple and speaks in casual Filipino, making it easy for anyone to use.

The app gets real-time weather info from Open-Meteo and tracks your location through OpenWeatherMap. It calculates if it is safe to hang your clothes based on rain probability, temperature, and humidity. It even estimates how long your laundry will take to dry. Humidity slows drying, hotter temperatures speed it up, and rain obviously ruins everything.

To make it even more fun, the app features a mascot named Ate Love who changes her look, colours, and dialogue depending on the weather.
When I tested it, the timing was accurate. It told me exactly when to put my clothes out to dry and saved me from another batch of damp, "amoy kulob" laundry.

For now, “Maglalaba Ba?” is accessible through its website, with mobile versions planned in the future. The app is already a game-changer for anyone tired of guessing when to do laundry.
This app is perfect for anyone like me who hates smelling musty as it could save your clothes and your sanity!
So, next time it looks cloudy outside, will you risk it or check “Maglalaba Ba?” first to avoid musty smelling clothes?
