SM North-Trinoma Walkway Soon to Be Built, Says DOTr

Walking between SM North Edsa and Trinoma can feel like a real-life Roblox obby or, in layman's terms, an obstacle course. Commuters dodge puddles, watch out for snatchers, and navigate uneven, slippery paths while trying to stay dry during heavy rain. The Department of Transportation (DOTr) says this struggle will soon end.

Acting Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez announced that the DOTr, together with MRT-3, is coordinating with the mall operators to build a covered walkway linking SM North Edsa and Trinoma.

“We saw the situation on the walkway between the two malls, and it was really bad for the passengers. When it rains, the walkway floods, so it’s really painful for the passersby, so we’re going to put a roof on the walkway,” Lopez said in a statement.

The planned covered walkway will eventually connect to the common station, giving commuters seamless access to MRT-3, MRT-7, and LRT-1. Both the common station and MRT-7 are scheduled to be operational by 2027.

While construction plans are finalised, MRT-3 personnel have started installing temporary cement slabs in flood-prone sections. The slabs provide safer passage for commuters during heavy rains, especially for those walking alone or carrying heavy bags.

Lopez added that the DOTr is coordinating with the malls on the exact construction schedule. The project is moving forward, but the start date depends on the final agreements with the mall management.

For Filipinos who regularly travel between the two malls—whether for shopping, work, or catching a train—the new walkway promises a safer, drier, and more convenient route. It also reduces risks like slipping, pickpocketing, or being caught in sudden downpours.

The covered walkway is a practical solution for Quezon City commuters. Soon, walking between SM North Edsa and Trinoma will be safer, giving Filipinos a drier and more convenient route while staying connected to key MRT and LRT lines.
