A house blessing at an Airbnb has gone viral

A guest has gone viral on social media after holding a house blessing at an Airbnb rental property that she did not own, leaving many Filipinos surprised and sparking discussions about proper guest etiquette.
Photos and videos shared online showed a priest leading a house blessing inside the accommodation, with family members, food, and decorations present for the occasion. Many people initially assumed the property belonged to the guest because house blessings are commonly associated with moving into a newly purchased home.
The incident quickly gained traction across social media after the property's owner clarified that the home was an Airbnb and not owned by the guest.

According to the guest's explanation shared online, the house blessing was not intended to claim ownership of the property. She reportedly said the ceremony was held because she wanted to receive blessings for her family while staying at the accommodation.
Despite the explanation, the incident continued to divide opinion online. Some social media users believed the ceremony was a personal expression of faith, while others questioned whether it was appropriate to hold a house blessing at a property that was only being rented for a short stay.
At the time of writing, there has been no official court ruling regarding the incident, and several claims circulating on social media remain unverified.

While Airbnb properties often feel like a home away from home, travellers should remember that they are staying in someone else's property.
Before organising any activity beyond a normal stay, it is always best to seek the host's permission first. This includes family gatherings, celebrations, photoshoots, religious ceremonies, or any event that may involve additional guests or significant use of the property.
Reading the property's house rules before booking and communicating openly with the host can help avoid misunderstandings and ensure a positive experience for both parties.

The viral Airbnb house blessing has become a reminder that respecting a host's property goes beyond keeping it clean. Clear communication, honesty, and following the agreed house rules remain essential whenever staying at a holiday rental.
Whether travelling within the Philippines or abroad, asking for permission before holding any special event is one of the simplest ways to be a respectful guest.
