A trip to Hongkong Disneyland turned tragic for a Filipino family last Friday. The Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed that a 53-year-old Filipino tourist collapsed while on the “Frozen Ever After” ride around 10 a.m. and was pronounced dead at 11:30 a.m. at a North Lantau hospital.
“The Consulate General, through its Assistance-to-Nationals Section, confirmed the incident with the Lantau Police Headquarters and contacted the next of kin of the deceased to convey our heartfelt condolences and to assist them with the process of repatriating the deceased's remains,” the DFA said in a statement.
“The Consulate General continues to coordinate with the local authorities and institutions concerned, while respecting the family's privacy during this difficult time,” it added.

Local reports say the tourist had a pre-existing medical condition. Hongkong Disneyland confirmed that the incident was not related to ride safety but has temporarily closed the Frozen Ever After ride from August 31 to September 19 for operational adjustments.
This is a sad reminder for Filipino travellers. Even if it’s a fun trip, your health comes first. If you have medical issues, check with your doctor before going on rides or doing anything too active.

If you’re going to Disneyland with family, know where the first aid stations are and keep an eye on each other, especially on the thrill rides. Hongkong Disneyland is still very popular for Filipinos. The rides, parades, and photo spots are a big draw for everyone.
But this incident is a reality check. Even in the happiest places on Earth, emergencies can happen. Staying cautious and prepared can make the difference between an unforgettable memory and a tragic experience.
