Planning to fly today? If you have been looking forward to a trip, whether it is a beach break, a hometown visit, or an overseas adventure, here is something you need to check. Multiple flights have been cancelled for Thursday, 24 July 2025, because of heavy rain caused by the southwest monsoon, locally known as Habagat.
Before heading to the airport, read this. We have put together the key details you need to know, especially if you are flying from or through Manila.
The current weather across Luzon and nearby regions has become unsafe for travel. The southwest monsoon is bringing continuous rain and strong winds, which have led to flooding and poor visibility. Because of this, airlines have cancelled selected flights for safety reasons.
Both Cebu Pacific and Philippine Airlines have confirmed cancellations for several domestic and international flights. Most of the affected flights are Manila-based, so if you are travelling through the capital, be sure to check your booking.
The following domestic routes from Manila are affected:
Manila to and from Naga
Manila to and from Cauayan
Manila to and from Legazpi via Daraga Airport
Manila to and from Cagayan de Oro
Manila to and from Laoag
Manila to and from Bacolod
Manila to and from Cebu
Manila to and from Tagbilaran in Bohol
Manila to and from Dumaguete
Manila to and from Puerto Princesa
Manila to and from Dipolog
Manila to and from Butuan
Manila to and from Zamboanga
Manila to and from Caticlan for Boracay
Manila to and from General Santos
Manila to and from Iloilo
Manila to and from Roxas
Manila to and from Tacloban
Manila to and from Davao
If you are flying on any of these routes, check your flight status on the airline’s website or app.
Philippine Airlines has also suspended the following routes:
PR 2781 and PR 2782 between Manila and Puerto Princesa
PR 408 from Manila to Osaka Kansai in Japan
Travellers booked on these flights are advised to check the PAL website or mobile app for rebooking options or refund procedures.
Getting a cancellation notice can be frustrating, especially if you were already packed and ready. Here is what you can do if your trip is affected:
Check your email or mobile app notifications from the airline. They usually send updates on your options.
Avoid heading to the airport right away. Confirm first if your flight is really going ahead.
Use the airline’s official website or app to rebook or request a refund.
If your trip is flexible, consider changing your travel dates to avoid the bad weather.
Flying during the rainy season comes with its own set of challenges. Here are some travel tips to help you stay prepared:
Choose early morning flights if possible, since these are less likely to be delayed.
Keep an eye on the weather forecast a few days before your trip.
Use waterproof luggage covers or dry bags to protect your things.
Always bring a compact umbrella or rain jacket.
Stay updated through airline apps and follow official weather bulletins.
If you do not have travel insurance yet, consider getting one for extra protection.
These little preparations can help make sure your trip goes as smoothly as possible, even if the weather is less than ideal.
Nobody wants their flight cancelled, especially after looking forward to a trip. But with heavy rain and strong winds in the forecast, safety comes first. If your flight has been cancelled today, take the time to sort out your rebooking or refund online. Stay patient, stay dry and know that your travel plans are only delayed, not cancelled forever.
With a bit of flexibility and the right information, your next adventure is still within reach. Better weather is just around the corner.
