If you’ve been stuck in long lines or hunting down a beep card in Metro Manila, relief is on the way. Starting next week, 300,000 fresh beep cards will arrive at MRT-3, LRT-1, and LRT-2 stations, according to the Department of Transportation (DOTr).
Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon said the delivery matches the exact shortage that’s been frustrating train commuters for months. “By next week, wala na tayong shortage,” he assured.
But there’s a catch for scalpers! The government is cracking down on syndicates buying beep cards in bulk and reselling them for up to ₱300 each. Authorities will patrol every station and coordinate with the police to arrest those caught in the act. Online sellers marking up prices will also be shut down. So, don’t you dare resell these beep cards at a higher price.

There’s more good news for students. Aside from decorating your beep cards with cute stickers or sleeves, you can soon get a personalised white beep card with your name printed on it starting September! In addition, it automatically gives you 50% off fares on all three train lines. Just bring your school ID to any station, and you can get it printed on the spot. Cards are valid for a year and can be renewed each school year.

DOTr has also scrapped the extra forms that students, senior citizens, and PWDs used to fill out to enjoy the 50% discount. Now, you can simply tap and ride without the paperwork hassle. Let’s admit it, filling out those forms adds up to your reason being late to wherever you are going!
With more beep cards on the way and new perks for students, commuting around Metro Manila is about to get easier! For Filipino commuters, students, and workers, this is one step closer to a smoother, cheaper, and less stressful ride.
