Every August, Davao City turns into a burst of colour, rhythm and celebration. That can only mean one thing. Kadayawan Festival is back. For 2025, it promises to be more exciting, immersive and culture-filled than ever.
If this is your first time hearing about Kadayawan, it is Davao’s biggest annual celebration. The festival is a grand thanksgiving for nature’s gifts, the city’s rich culture and the unity of its eleven ethnolinguistic tribes. It is not just a party. It is a celebration of identity, gratitude and togetherness that welcomes locals and travellers alike.

Kadayawan kicks off on 8 August and continues until 31 August 2025. While there are activities throughout the month, most of the major highlights will take place on the weekend of 17 August.
The local government of Davao City has also declared 15 August as a special non-working holiday. This date also marks Indigenous Peoples Day, which gives travellers and locals a chance to fully enjoy the festivities.
Kadayawan Opening Ceremony – 8 August

The festival opens at the Kadayawan Tribal Village inside Magsaysay Park. It features performances from the eleven indigenous tribes of Davao, along with traditional music, rituals and dances that give you a taste of what is to come.
Hiyas sa Kadayawan – 9 and 14 August

More than just a beauty pageant, Hiyas sa Kadayawan celebrates the grace, wisdom and advocacy of women representing each tribe. The coronation night on 14 August is a proud showcase of indigenous identity and strength.
Indak Indak sa Kadalanan – 17 August

This is the street dancing competition that brings energy, colour and tradition to Davao’s main roads. Expect powerful performances with tribal-inspired choreography and costumes. It is one of the most talked-about parts of the festival each year.

Right after the street dancing, Davao holds a floral float parade. These floats are decorated with fresh blooms, fruits and local materials, showing off the city’s agricultural bounty and creative spirit.
Bantawan Cultural Performances – 10 to 12 August

These cultural shows at Magsaysay Park allow visitors to watch traditional dances, music and storytelling from Davao’s indigenous communities. It is an excellent way to learn more about each tribe’s lifestyle and beliefs.
Agong ug Kulintangan and Tunog ug Sayaw – 15 August

A must-visit for foodies. This food fair at the tribal village features authentic dishes from different ethnolinguistic groups. It is a great place to try local delicacies and comfort food you probably will not find anywhere else.

Kadayawan Trade Fair – 8 to 31 August
Located at Magsaysay Park, the trade fair runs daily and features local crafts, textiles, native snacks, handmade goods and more. It is the perfect spot for pasalubong shopping or just exploring the creativity of Davao’s small businesses.
Kadayawan Expo – 28 to 31 August
The Kadayawan Expo 2025 will take place at Azuela Cove. It brings together regional artisans, chefs, designers and performers in one space. Entry is free, and the experience includes live music, fashion shows, interactive booths and delicious food.
Visit the Kadayawan Tribal Village
If you want to connect with the cultural roots of Davao, head to the Kadayawan Tribal Village at Magsaysay Park. Each of the eleven tribes has its own house or balay that you can explore. You will find demos on weaving, carving, cooking and more. It is also a chill spot to learn, relax and take creative photos.
Davao City has a strong reputation for public safety. For this year’s Kadayawan, over fourteen thousand security personnel are expected to be deployed across the city. Streets will be busy but well-organised.
If you are travelling from outside Davao, it is best to book your flights and hotel early. Accommodations near Poblacion or Lanang offer convenient access to the main event areas.
