In a country where beaches and beach getaways are the norm, it’s hard to believe that a province like Batanes exists. Windy, isolated, and mostly untouched, it’s everything a Filipino who’s used to life in the big city could ask for. Now, travellers will have more options of travelling to the province thanks to new flights operating from Luzon come 2020.

Earlier this week, the Association of Tourism Industries and Networks (ATIN) and the Leading Edge International Aviation Corporation (LEIASCOR) shared that they will soon open flights to Basco, Batanes from San Fernando, La Union. This will make it easier for travellers coming from northern and other areas of central Luzon to travel to the Philippines’ northernmost province.

In a report by ABS-CBN News, LEIASCOR stated that they have acquired the necessary security and convenience clearance permits for their operations. Furthermore, according to Marketing Manager Allan Ballesteros, they are already being monitored by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines.

The La Union to Batanes flights will take about 45 minutes to one hour per way and involves riding a Fokker 50 plane. The trip is priced at ₱18,888, which covers meals, a tour guide, accommodation and land transfer upon arrival in Batanes. The maiden test flight will take off on 3 May 2019 and is already fully booked. Travellers can start reserving seats for the next available flight scheduled on January 2020.
