With its natural spring pool inside a cave and relaxing surroundings, this local gem is perfect for travellers who want something raw and simple.

Location: Barangay Elevado, Matalom, Leyte
Nearest town: Matalom town proper
Travel time from Ormoc: Around three hours by public transport and motorbike
Hitoog Cave is tucked away in a remote part of Matalom, a town in Southern Leyte. It is not a mainstream tourist spot, which means fewer crowds and a more laid-back atmosphere. The area is quiet and mostly visited by locals or travellers looking for a more natural experience.
Easy access with no long treks. The cave entrance is just a few steps from where your motorbike drops you off.
Entrance fee is ₱20 per person.
Two water features to enjoy. Outside the cave, there is a manmade pool that collects fresh water flowing from inside. Step into the cave and you will find a small, natural pool with clear, cold spring water.
Ideal for travellers who want to slow down and enjoy a quiet moment in nature without the noise of commercial attractions.

Swim in a natural cave pool
Inside the cave, you will find a calm pool filled with crystal-clear spring water. The water is cold, perfect for cooling off on a hot day. It is not deep enough for diving but is great for soaking, sitting, or taking a relaxing swim.
Chill by the spring-fed pool outside
There is also a small pool outside the cave that collects water directly from the spring. It is shallow and clean, perfect for dipping your feet while taking in the view of the cave entrance.
Enjoy the quiet
With no major tourism facilities around, the area stays peaceful. If you are the kind of traveller who enjoys simple places and natural sounds, you will definitely appreciate the calm.
Bring your own snacks and water. There are no stores nearby.
Wear slippers or aqua shoes. The cave floor can be slippery, especially near the water.
Do not use shampoo or soap. Help keep the water clean for future visitors.
Bring cash. No ATMs or digital payment options in the area.
Be respectful. This is a community-maintained site, so please avoid littering or causing damage.

From Ormoc City:
Take a van or bus going to Matalom.
From the town proper, ride a motorbike to Barangay Elevado and ask to be dropped off near Hitoog Cave.
The motorbike ride usually takes about 15 to 20 minutes. Locals are familiar with the area and can help if you need directions.
If you are coming from outside Leyte, fly to Tacloban or Ormoc, then travel by land to Matalom.
