If you commute using LRT 2, here is some good news that could help you save on transport. The Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) has confirmed that all passengers can ride the LRT 2 for free on Thursday, 26 June 2025. This announcement comes after a technical fault caused delays and limited train operations during the morning rush on Wednesday, 25 June.
This free ride initiative is not just a small bonus. It is part of a bigger effort by authorities to support commuters who were affected by the unexpected service disruption.

At around 6:45 AM on 25 June, the LRTA reported a technical issue involving two rectifiers or transformers located between Santolan and Anonas stations. These components are essential to powering the train line. Because of this fault, LRT 2 was forced to operate in “degraded mode”, meaning it could only run between Cubao and Recto stations.
This disruption left thousands of passengers, especially those coming from the eastern side of Metro Manila including Antipolo and Marikina, stranded or needing to find alternative transport. Many had to wait for shuttle services or deal with longer travel times just to reach their destinations.
In response to the disruption, the LRTA coordinated quickly with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and the Philippine Coast Guard. Together, they deployed shuttle buses to help commuters reach areas that were temporarily cut off from the train route.
Shortly after, Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon approved a directive granting free rides on LRT 2 for two days, 25 and 26 June. This was announced across official platforms and confirmed by news outlets. The initiative aims to provide relief for those who experienced delays and inconvenience due to the technical issue.
By midday on 25 June, the LRTA confirmed that full LRT 2 operations had resumed. Trains are once again running from Antipolo to Recto, with normal service restored across all stations.
Even though service is back to normal, the free ride offer remains valid on Thursday, 26 June, making it a great opportunity to save on your commute or explore parts of the city without the extra expense.
Free rides apply to all LRT 2 stations

For students, young professionals, and daily workers, even a one-day free ride can make a difference. It is also a reminder of how responsive the transport system can be in times of unexpected delays.
So whether you are heading to work, school, or even planning a day out around Metro Manila, this is a chance to enjoy a stress-free ride. Take advantage of the free service, keep an eye on official updates, and plan your journey wisely.
