Filipinos affected by Tropical Storm Maymay and the enhanced Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) may be eligible for an SSS Emergency Loan of up to ₱20,000.
The Social Security System (SSS) announced that its existing Emergency Loan Program (ELP) is available to qualified members affected by the calamity, providing financial relief for those dealing with expenses brought by the ongoing severe weather. The programme is available to qualified members nationwide.
The SSS Emergency Loan Program has been in effect since 1 May 2026, with more flexible eligibility requirements for members affected by calamities.
Qualified SSS members can borrow up to ₱20,000 under the Emergency Loan Program.
The loan carries an interest rate of 7% per year and is payable over 30 months. Members are also given a six-month payment moratorium from the date of loan approval, meaning regular monthly payments begin in the seventh month. No penalties are imposed during the six-month moratorium.
It is important to note that the ₱20,000 is a loan and not a cash grant, so borrowers will need to repay the amount according to the applicable terms.
To qualify for the SSS Emergency Loan, members must have at least 18 monthly contributions, reduced from the previous requirement of 36 months.
They must also have at least six posted contributions within the last 12 months before the month of their loan application.
For self-employed, voluntary, non-working spouse and land-based OFW members, at least six monthly contributions under their current membership type are required before the month of application.
Other SSS Emergency Loan eligibility requirements include:
Must be below 65 years old when applying
Must have a valid Philippine home address registered with SSS
Must have updated contact information in the SSS database
Must have no past-due emergency, calamity, salary or other applicable SSS member loans
Must have no outstanding restructured loan
Must not have been disqualified due to fraud committed against SSS
Yes. Qualified members can apply for the Emergency Loan online through the My.SSS Portal on the official SSS website.
Members affected by Tropical Storm Maymay and Habagat may also apply for an SSS salary loan at the same time, provided they meet the requirements for both loans.
Before applying, members should make sure their SSS records and contact information are updated and that they meet all the loan requirements.
Borrowers do not need to make monthly amortisation payments during the first six months from the date of loan approval.
Regular monthly payments begin in the seventh month, according to SSS. No penalties will be imposed during the six-month moratorium.
This payment break may give qualified members some time to manage immediate expenses following the effects of severe weather and flooding.

For Filipinos dealing with unexpected expenses following heavy rains, flooding and other effects of the southwest monsoon and Tropical Storm Maymay, the SSS Emergency Loan could provide an additional source of financial assistance.
However, members should remember that this is a loan that must be repaid with interest, not a government cash aid or donation.
If you are an SSS member affected by the recent weather conditions, check your eligibility and apply through the official My.SSS Portal if you meet the requirements.
