A new TikTok trend has taken the world by storm and it’s revolutionising the way we see eating alone. Introducing: Mouse moments, a “sad or introspective moment where you’re forced to eat alone.” The original video on YouTube features a claymation (animation made out of clay) mouse munching on some M&Ms while a peaceful piano instrumental plays in the background. 

As a casual TikTok user, I’ve come across tons of people showing their own interpretation of a mouse moment, some of which I may or may not have become too emotional over. Maybe it’s the discomfort of loneliness or the preconceived notion that food must be shared with others. Whatever it is, in a way, I have come to appreciate the unthinkable joy and solitude that comes with eating alone.
