Cheers to a whopping number of 20 holidays and 13 long weekends in the Philippines! Filipinos have all reasons to rejoice this 2015 as well! Feeling the vacation vibe? Plan your getaways now!

If you are a regular on the MRT or LRT, you know the feeling. You are rushing to catch your train, your bag feels heavier than usual, and there is a queue of passengers behind you. Then the ticket clerk hands you a form to fill out so you can claim your fare discount. By the time you have written your name, ID number, and other details, the next train has already left.
Those days are now over.

Starting today, 13 August 2025, the Department of Transportation has removed the form requirement for senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and students who want to avail themselves of the 50 percent fare discount on MRT-3, LRT-1, and LRT-2. This means you can simply present your ID and go straight to getting your ticket or loading your card. No pens, no paper, and no extra waiting time.

Transport Secretary Vince Dizon explained that the main goal is to save time and make the commute less stressful. Filling out the form used to take about one to one and a half minutes per person. While it may sound short, this delay adds up quickly during rush hours. With this change, queues will be shorter, transactions will be faster, and fewer passengers will miss their trains.
How the new process works
You only need a valid ID to show that you are eligible for the discount. This applies whether you are buying a single journey ticket or topping up a card. The no form policy also applies to passengers who do not have a Beep card.

For those who prefer using a card, there is more good news coming. By September 2025, discounted Beep cards for seniors, persons with disabilities, and students will be available. That is next month’s update. For now, the focus is on celebrating a quicker and simpler process that starts today.
The next time you are at the MRT or LRT station, enjoy the smoother transaction and take advantage of the extra minutes you save. One less hassle is always a win for city commuters.
