If you are flying to or from Ozamiz any time soon, here is something you will want to know.
On the morning of 16 June, a Philippine Airlines flight from Manila to Ozamiz, Flight PR2889, experienced a technical issue after landing. The plane arrived safely at Ozamiz Airport at around 6:14 a.m., but it had difficulty moving towards the terminal.
According to reports, the aircraft experienced a nose wheel steering malfunction. This system helps the plane turn while it is moving on the ground. Although the landing went smoothly, the plane could not proceed to the terminal area on its own.
All 161 passengers were safely guided off the aircraft, and there were no reported injuries. Philippine Airlines staff and airport crew acted quickly to assist everyone and ensure passenger safety.

Since the plane was unable to move, it remained on the runway and blocked access for other flights. This led to several flight cancellations and delays at Ozamiz Airport. The incident affected normal operations for a good part of the morning.
If you or someone you know is scheduled to fly to or from Ozamiz within the next few days, it is best to check with your airline before heading to the airport. You can get the latest flight status through airline websites, mobile apps, or even official social media pages.
Ozamiz Airport is a key gateway to Misamis Occidental and other parts of Northern Mindanao. Since only a few commercial flights operate daily in this area, any disruption like this can easily affect multiple flights and passengers.

Philippine Airlines has confirmed the incident and said that their engineering team is already looking into the aircraft issue. The airline is also working closely with the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) to investigate the cause of the malfunction and carry out safety inspections.
Although technical issues like this are uncommon, they do happen from time to time. What matters most is how the airline and aviation authorities respond. In this case, the response was quick, and the safety of passengers remained the top priority.
PAL has also assured travellers that they are taking steps to make sure the aircraft is thoroughly checked before returning to service. This includes following all aviation safety standards and ensuring the system is working properly.

While this kind of disruption is never ideal, it serves as a reminder to stay informed when travelling. Always check your booking details, monitor flight updates, and be prepared for changes, especially when flying to smaller provincial airports.
For those planning a trip to Ozamiz or other parts of Mindanao, it is best to stay flexible with your schedule. Being prepared helps reduce the stress that comes with unexpected changes.
We are hoping for a smooth return to normal operations at Ozamiz Airport very soon. Safe travels ahead.
