Our favourite places to stay on this sleepy Cebu island.
Let us be honest. Siargao has that pack-up-and-go energy. It is the kind of place that calls to your soul, but not always to your wallet. Or at least, that is what people assume. The truth is you can enjoy Siargao on a budget and still live your best island life. Think surf spots, sunset views, and coconut trees, all without spending more than you have to.
If you are looking for practical ways to save money on the island without cutting down the fun, these tips are for you.

If you are serious about saving, it starts with your flight. Airfare can take a big chunk out of your travel fund, but it does not have to.
One of the easiest ways to cut costs is by looking out for seat sales from airlines like Cebu Pacific, Philippine Airlines, and AirAsia. Booking two to three months in advance usually gives you the best deals.
For an extra saving trick, fly into Surigao City instead of Siargao directly, then take a ferry across. It takes more time, but it is often cheaper.

You do not need to book a beachfront resort to enjoy the beach. Hostels, homestays, and budget guesthouses in General Luna can give you comfort, great location, and the chance to meet other travellers.
Some hostels offer shared kitchens, free Wi-Fi, and cheap motorbike rentals. If you are travelling with friends, try booking an Airbnb to split the cost. Many homestays even offer discounts for longer stays, especially if you visit outside peak season.

Motorbike rental is easily the most affordable and flexible way to get around the island. It lets you visit places on your own schedule and avoid paying for tours or group transport.
A day’s rental costs around 350 to 400 pesos, and petrol is cheap. If you do not want to ride a motorbike, tricycles are available in most areas, especially in General Luna. They are a bit more expensive per trip, but still affordable for short distances.

You do not need to try everything. Focus on a few key experiences and skip the rest. Many of Siargao’s highlights are either free or inexpensive if you plan wisely.
Island hopping tours are usually cheaper when shared with a group. Places like Magpupungko Rock Pools only require a small entrance fee. Surfing at Cloud 9 is surprisingly affordable as well, with lessons and board rentals available at reasonable rates.
Some of the most memorable moments come from simple things like driving through the coconut tree road or watching the waves roll in at sunrise, which do not cost anything.

If you want to eat well without overspending, find the nearest carinderia. These local eateries serve hot, home-cooked meals for a fraction of what restaurants charge.
Meals typically cost between 60 to 120 pesos. If your accommodation has a kitchen, you can shop at the local market and cook a few of your own meals. This works especially well for breakfast or late-night snacks.
You can also find tasty barbecue and rice meals from street stalls, especially in the evening. It is simple, satisfying, and easy on the budget.
Siargao is not the best place to rely on ATMs. Some run out of cash, and many small businesses only accept cash payments. Bring enough for your full trip and separate it by category so you do not overspend early on.
It is also a good idea to carry smaller bills. Some shops and drivers will not have change for larger denominations.

Doing Siargao on a budget is not about missing out. It is about focusing on what really matters. You do not need luxury accommodation or fancy meals to fall in love with the island. The sound of the waves, the warmth of the people, and the beauty of the landscapes are all included in the experience, no matter how much you spend.
This is your reminder that real travel moments do not come with a price tag. With the right approach, Siargao can be the perfect escape even on a modest budget.
