On 1 Sep 2020, the City Government of Tagaytay posted a memorandum, announcing the declaration of Cavite under MGCQ. City Administrator Gregorio Monreal revealed, in an interview with Dobol B sa News TV, that the memorandum also officially opens Tagaytay City to tourists.

Do you need a travel pass?

On 17 Sep 2020, Cavite Governor Jonvic Remulla clarified on Facebook that tourists do NOT need a travel pass to enter Tagaytay City.

“Sa kasalukuyan, bukas po ang Tagaytay City under MGCQ at hindi po kinakailangan ng TRAVEL PASS para makarating dito,” Remulla posted. “On a serious note, PLEASE remember that we are still under a strict QUARANTINE system. We are still very much in a pandemic mode. Patuloy ang paglaganap ng COVID kaya’t siguraduhin po ang pag-iingat ng lahat.”

Further, the governor warned the public to be wary of COVID-19 as they consider travelling to Tagaytay. “Panahon ng tag-ulan ngayon sa Cavite at ang pagkakasakit ng sipon at ubo (at ang droplets na dala nito) ay maaaring maging contributing factor sa pagkalat ng COVID. Stay safe and keep well everyone. God bless Cavite!”

MGCQ guidelines for Tagaytay City tourists

In the memorandum, Tagaytay City Mayor Agnes Tolentino reminds tourists and residents alike to adhere to minimum public health standards. This includes the wearing of face masks and face shields and physical distancing.

Checkpoints in the entry points of Tagaytay are still maintained under MGCQ; but, travel passes aren’t necessary anymore. In place of that, visitors are required to fill out health declaration forms to ensure safe travels. You may travel to Tagaytay via private vehicle — just make sure to observe physical distancing inside your vehicle.

Aside from its entry checkpoints, Tagaytay City is observing even more checkpoints within its area to monitor and control the movements of its visitors.

Presently, the only hotels open in Tagaytay City are those that have already secured clearance from the Department of Tourism (DOT). They are only allowed to operate up to 50% of their capacity.

Moreover, the MGCQ status has also lifted the liquor ban in Tagaytay City. However, drinking alcohol is limited to restaurants, dining establishments, and similar private places.

Note that MGCQ guidelines are limited to people who are at lower risks of catching COVID-19. That said, the following people are still prohibited to go outside unless necessary: people with health risks, pregnant women, and those under 21 or above 60 years old.
