#TripZillaConfessions: Worst Travel Decisions

It’s our #TripZillaConfessions series again!

After our most embarrassing travel moments, we’re sharing with you our WORST travel decisions. Promise, we learned a great deal from them! 😉

Raw, honest, inspiring but sometimes disturbing, our #TripZillaConfessions series presents the authentic travel experiences of our TripZilla Philippines team.

What’s your worst travel decision?

1. Detained in Bulgaria

“Some of you might know it already. I contributed it before. It was not verifying that Bulgaria wasn’t part of Schengen. I had problems with my single entry visa which involved being temporarily questioned and detained.”

2. Wait. Where’s my passport?

“My worst decision was not being able to plan my Bali trip properly to the point na I forgot my passport sa hotel pero nasa airport na ako :(. So I needed to go back to the hotel and grab my passport. I was five mins away from missing my flight. So lesson learned talaga sakin to always have a list before you arrive and leave the said destination.”

3. Swallow your pride!

“Letting my pride take over. This is a general thing kasi nangyayari all the time. Nagwawalkout ako tapos uuwi magisa, tapos maliligaw ako. Worst is nung nangyari sa Tacloban, at wala akong pera at wala akong maintindihan. Naglakad ako pauwi ng hotel sobrang layo. Inabot pa ko ng ulan.”

4. Should have stayed longer!

“Not extending Europe? Hahaha. Because now I have to pay for things so who knows when I’ll be back.”

5. Fix my passport, please.

“Not fixing my passport any sooner because I felt like this was out of my control at one point. I had legal problems with the surname I carried all throughout my childhood and it was a sensitive topic for my parents and the rest of family so I really couldn’t force them to fix it. But when I was about to graduate from college I put my foot down. Sabi ko we have to decide ano na nga bang surname gagamitin ko kasi hassle siya in life.”

6.  Short on cash…

“Going to Nepal without informing my bank na aabroad ako for three weeks, had endless problems with money while there.”

7. Getting sick

“Going from snowy Chicago to Arizona. I got sick.”

8. Damaging nature

“When I was still a teenager, my family and I went on a spelunking adventure in a cave in Cagayan de Oro. Of course, because it’s a cave, there were a lot of stalactites and stalagmites. There’s one particular stalactite that caught my attention. Our guide had been constantly reminding us not to pick any stone or do anything to damage the formations. And guess what? Binali ko yung stalactite and stealthily kept it in my pocket. Looking back, I realised that was such a terrible decision, and I vowed never to do it or do something similar to damage the natural environment ever again. My guilt is still creeping in as I tell you this.”

9. Too late!

“Spending too much time in Shifen that Jiufen closed on us when we got there.”
