If you're planning to fly with AirAsia Philippines soon, you might want to rethink your packing strategy. Starting 15 Aug 2024, the airline is set to implement a stricter cabin baggage policy aimed at improving boarding efficiency and enhancing the overall passenger experience.

Under the new policy, AirAsia passengers will be limited to two carry-on bags with a combined weight of up to 7 kg. This includes one main bag, such as a backpack or a trolley bag, and one small personal item, which could be a handbag or a laptop case. The main cabin bag must fit in the overhead compartment and adhere to the maximum dimensions of 56cm (H) x 23cm (W) x 36cm (L). Meanwhile, the personal item should not exceed 40cm (H) x 30cm (W) x 10cm (L) and must be stowed under the seat in front of you.
To ensure compliance with the new guidelines, AirAsia will enforce stricter inspections at the boarding gate. Passengers who exceed the size or weight limits will be required to check in their bags for an additional fee. This change comes as part of the airline's broader effort to streamline the boarding process and reduce delays, which can significantly impact the overall travel experience.
"We've introduced this cabin baggage policy to support on-time departures and to ensure a faster, more seamless boarding and disembarking process," said Steve Dailisan, AirAsia’s Communications and Public Affairs Head & First Officer. "Adhering to the cabin baggage policy is crucial not only to avoid unexpected charges at the airport but also to reduce congestion during boarding, which can negatively affect the guest experience."
One notable aspect of the new policy is that passengers will no longer be allowed to tie, wrap, or strap multiple items together in an attempt to count them as a single piece of luggage. Additionally, duty-free purchases will count towards your baggage limit unless they are stored in a Security Tamper-Evident Bag (STEB) with proof of purchase.

With these tighter regulations, AirAsia is emphasising the importance of minimalist packing. Passengers are encouraged to plan carefully to avoid additional fees and to contribute to a more efficient boarding process. The airline hopes that this new policy will lead to smoother operations and a better overall experience for all travellers.
As AirAsia continues to focus on improving its services, passengers are reminded to stay informed of any changes to airline policies to ensure a hassle-free journey.
