Airbnb in Pasay Robbed: Traveller Safety Alert

Staying in Airbnb rentals is often seen as a convenient and comfortable option for travellers, especially in busy cities like Pasay. On 29 January 2026, Krissa Anne Ellson sought help from Raffy Tulfo in Action to report alleged security lapses at Najar Residences, a condominium operating as an Airbnb. Her complaint stemmed from a burglary incident that raised serious concerns over traveller safety inside the building.

Ellson recounted that on 7 October 2025, two armed men entered their Airbnb unit and took mobile phones, car keys, and other valuables. CCTV footage later showed the suspects checking multiple unit doors before heading to the reception area, which was left unattended at the time. Spare keys were reportedly accessible, allowing the suspects to enter the unit with ease.

According to Ellson, the receptionist was asleep during the incident and the unit did not have a double lock, making it easier for the suspects to gain entry. Police have since filed charges against the two individuals identified as suspects, who were recognised through mugshots and were linked to previous cases involving similar methods.

During the programme, Senator Raffy Tulfo contacted the building owner, Noraldin Madid, who acknowledged the incident but cited the absence of an on site security guard and reliance on village security. Tulfo stressed that, under existing condominium regulations, building owners are responsible for ensuring the safety and security of occupants, including proper handling of duplicate keys and adequate security measures.

Pasay City officials have also taken notice of the case. The local government is reviewing the establishment’s business permit and has indicated that penalties or suspension may be imposed due to the reported security lapses. The incident has also prompted discussions on strengthening security requirements for short term rental properties operating in the city.

In response, the building owner agreed to provide compensation to the victim. Raffy Tulfo in Action also committed to assisting Ellson in coordinating with local authorities to ensure that promised measures and remedies are carried out.

While Airbnb remains a popular accommodation choice among travellers in the Philippines, this incident serves as a reminder that safety should never be overlooked. Checking security features and understanding how a property manages access can make a significant difference when choosing where to stay.
