Delayed Pampanga Flyover Project Slammed as Secretary Dizon Demands June 2027 Finish

Getting stuck in traffic on McArthur Highway is a daily reality for many people in Angeles City. You might be sitting in a jeepney or driving to work, looking at the same unfinished roadworks for what feels like forever. It is frustrating to see a project sit idle while the commute stays difficult.

Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has finally set a deadline for the Sto. Cristo Flyover in Pampanga. During an inspection on Saturday, 31 January, Secretary Vince Dizon confirmed that the project is now a priority. The government expects the flyover to be fully finished by June 2027.

This specific project has been a source of stress for locals because of how long it has taken. While the flyover is only one kilometre long, it has been under construction since 2023. This three-year delay happened because the budget was released in small stages rather than all at once.

Because the funding was not available in one go, the construction could not move forward at a normal pace. Secretary Dizon noted that a project of this size should usually only take about 18 months to complete. To fix this, he has ordered the immediate release of the funds needed to get the work back on track.

The goal of this project is to give drivers an alternative route so they can avoid the heavy congestion on McArthur Highway. By moving traffic onto the flyover, the DPWH hopes to make travel through Angeles City much faster. This push to finish the roadworks comes from a direct order by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to speed up all pending agency projects.

If you regularly pass through this part of Pampanga, you will likely see more construction activity over the next year. While the finish date of June 2027 is still some time away, the release of the full budget means the project should not stop again. Once it is open, the flyover will help reduce the time you spend sitting in traffic on the way to work or school.
