Quezon City to Caloocan in Minutes: MRT-7 Sets 2027 Opening Date for 12 Stations

If you have ever spent two hours trapped in a jeepney along Commonwealth Avenue just to reach North Avenue, you know the specific exhaustion of the North Manila commute. You are usually sweaty, tired, and checking your watch every five minutes while the traffic barely moves. There is finally a concrete timeline to swap those humid, unpredictable rides for an air-conditioned train cabin.

Department of Transportation (DOTr) confirmed this Saturday that a major segment of the Metro Rail Transit Line 7 (MRT-7) is on track. Acting Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez announced that 12 stations will be fully operational by the second quarter of 2027. This section will run from North Avenue in Quezon City all the way to Sacred Heart in Caloocan.

While the entire project has seen its share of delays, the government is now focusing on getting this specific 12-station stretch ready for daily passengers. Secretary Lopez stated that by the second quarter of 2027, these stations will move from testing phases to "full operation." This means they will be functioning as a standard revenue line where commuters can buy tickets and ride for their daily shifts or classes.

The 12 stations included in this 2027 opening schedule are:

  • North Avenue (connecting to the Grand Central Station)

  • Quezon Memorial Circle

  • University Avenue

  • Tandang Sora

  • Don Antonio

  • Batasan

  • Manggahan

  • Doña Carmen

  • Regalado

  • Mindanao Avenue

  • Quirino

  • Sacred Heart

Faster travel times for Quezon City and Caloocan commuters

For those living in Fairview or the outskirts of Caloocan, this update is a significant shift for the daily budget and schedule. Taking the train is often cheaper and much faster than relying on multiple UV Express or jeepney transfers that get stuck at every intersection. Secretary Lopez expressed optimism that this segment will be completely ready to service the public within the promised timeframe.

Once these stations open, the commute from the edge of Caloocan to the heart of Quezon City will be cut down to a fraction of the current travel time. This allows workers and students to reclaim hours of their day that are currently wasted in heavy traffic, making the "daily grind" a bit more bearable.
