Filipino Thriller ‘Arisaka’ to Premiere on Netflix in December 2021

The Filipino action thriller film Arisaka will be available for streaming on Netflix beginning 9 Dec 2021, announced Mikhail Red in an Instagram post.

In another post, the award-winning director behind Birdshot and Dead Kids said that the film production was able to stay on track without encountering significant delays, despite “three typhoons” and “COVID restrictions.”

Arisaka had its world premiere at the 34th Tokyo International Film Festival, where it competed for the prestigious Tokyo Grand Prix award.

Filipino action-revenge thriller Arisaka retraces the Bataan Death March

Taking place in the jungles and hills of Bataan, Arisaka tells the story of Mariano (Maja Salvador), a local police officer escorting a politician to a press conference. When the convoy is derailed by an assassination attempt, Mariano must find a way to stay alive in the wilderness and retrace the trail of the Bataan Death March to escape a dangerous crime boss (Mon Confiado) chasing her.

In a tale of survival and determination, the action thriller unearths memories of the Bataan Death March, the harrowing event in which Filipino and American soldiers were forced to walk over 100 kilometres under brutal conditions during World War II. The title of the film is named after the Arisaka rifle, a Japanese bolt-action rifle that was used by the Imperial Japanese Army.

Arisaka marks Mikhail Red’s second collaboration with Netflix after Dead Kids, the first Philippine-made Netflix original film released in 2019.

With its gripping and action-packed premise, this original Filipino film will be a must-watch when it arrives on Netflix a few weeks from now.
