Clarin Bridge: The Latest Eye-Catching Landmark in Bohol

Bridges may not be at the top of your agenda when travelling to Bohol, but it’s easy to appreciate the newly opened Clarin Bridge in Loay. The picturesque two-way bridge crosses the famous Loboc River, connecting the towns of Loay and Loboc and offering tourists easier access to attractions like the Bilar Man-Made Forest and the Tarsier Conservation Area. Another sign to visit Bohol? (Not that we ever need an excuse!)

Paving the way for safer travels

Clarin Bridge spans 104 metres and features two graceful arches and criss-cross hangers that make it an eye-catching landmark on the road. Notable features also include metal guardrails and sidewalks on either side, making it safe and accessible for motorists and pedestrians.

This “superstructure” project is a ₱501.87 billion initiative built in partnership with the Japanese government. The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) expects the bridge to play a vital role in boosting the local economy, transporting goods, and giving travellers easier (and safer) access to tourist spots while exploring Bohol.

In with the new, out with the old

The new Clarin Bridge in Bohol replaces the decades-old structure that collapsed in April. Built in the 1970s, the old bridge was also heavily damaged during the 7.2-magnitude earthquake that devastated Bohol in 2013.

Interesting fact: this is one of the few Nielsen arch bridges in the Philippines! Another is Bamban Bridge in Tarlac, a picturesque structure built in the 1990s as part of the rehabilitation efforts following the 1991 eruption of Mount Pinatubo.
