As the country begins to restart domestic tourism, Boracay is reopening to local tourists starting 1 October 2020. According to the Department of tourism, the world-famous island destination will be accepting visitors from all over the Philippines. Boracay initially reopened to residents from neighbouring areas including Aklan, Capiz, and Bacolod last June.

Boracay reopening: Things to know before you plan your visit

The same with any and all trips lined up during the COVID-19 pandemic, all tourists must be equipped with the necessary health essentials: face masks, face shields, hand sanitisers, and other forms of personal protective equipment.

But more than just that, those planning to visit Boracay must be prepared to present negative COVID-19 test results before they can set foot on the island. Testing must be done 48 to 72 hours before travelling.

As advised by the DOT, Godofredo P. Ramos Airport in Caticlan will be the sole airport of entry to the island. Tourists are also reminded to book a DOT-accredited hotel or resort in order to ensure a safe stay.

Boracay is one of several tourist destinations that are slowly reopening amidst the pandemic, as El Nido and Baguio have also slowly established travel bubbles in order to restart local tourism.

What are your thoughts on this? Should you decide to travel amid the pandemic, please remember to always be equipped with the essentials and to stay safe and sanitised!
