The Camalaniugan Bridge connects the towns of Aparri and Camalaniugan in Cagayan Province. It is 1.58 kilometres long, with 1.10 kilometres of approach spans and a 0.48-kilometre cable-stayed main span. The design rises elegantly above the river and blends modern engineering with the natural surroundings.

The bridge is a design-and-build project by Agafer Construction and Development Corporation, a Filipino contractor, and Hunan Road and Bridge Construction Group Co., Ltd. from China. The project is led by a Filipino company, showing strong local expertise. The total budget is ₱2.34 billion, with an extra ₱260.2 million to complete the remaining works. The DPWH manages the project under the Build Better More programme, ensuring safety, durability, and a visually appealing design.

Once open, the bridge will cut travel time between Aparri and Ballesteros from about an hour to just twenty minutes. It will also provide an alternative to the Magapit Suspension Bridge, the only other major crossing over the Cagayan River. Around 6,000 motorists and commuters are expected to use it every day.

The bridge is not just practical, it is also a visual landmark. Its cable-stayed design offers panoramic views of the river and surrounding countryside, making it a great spot for photos and road trips.

As of October 2025, the bridge is almost finished, with 99 percent of civil works completed. Full completion is expected by January 2026, but it may open to traffic as early as Christmas 2025.

Travellers can enjoy lively markets, riverside eateries, and cultural sites in Camalaniugan and Aparri. Nearby towns like Ballesteros, Buguey, and Claveria are also easily accessible, giving you more places to explore.

It is important to check weather conditions, especially during the rainy season, as Northern Luzon can experience heavy rains and typhoons. The bridge has flood control features, but approach roads may still be affected in extreme weather.

A simple itinerary could include exploring Aparri’s port and local markets, crossing the bridge to Ballesteros to enjoy the views, and returning via the older Magapit route to see the difference the new bridge makes in connecting towns.

Whether you are driving across for the first time, taking photos, or exploring nearby towns, it is a landmark worth visiting. It is set to become one of Northern Luzon’s must-see destinations.
