The promise of new flavours beckons from Banawe.
While the term “Team Kahoy” is relatively new, the Filipino admiration for wooden furniture is definitely not. Lately, engineered bamboo has been growing its name as a low-cost alternative to heavyweight wood, with more local brands utilising it for both structural and furniture building purposes.
Recently, start-up housing company Cubo Modular revealed its subsidiary brand, Cubo Life, which offers furniture pieces exclusively made with engineered bamboo.

For the longest time, Filipinos have considered bamboo as a prime material for their homes. Nipa huts, along with their complimentary lounge chairs and centre tables, are typically made of this plant material.
Cubo Life gives a fresh spin to this classic Filipino building block. With chic and modern furniture pieces, the brand marks local craftsmanship and Filipino heritage that transcends through time. All its pieces are made with termite-resistant solid engineered bamboo. This allows them to last for generations.

Setting itself apart from traditional bahay kubo furniture, Cubo Life carries sleek wooden products with clean lines and minimalist silhouettes. Steering away from the typical dark-stained varnish, the brand preserves the natural pale yellow colour of bamboo. With this, its pieces almost resemble birch, which is commonly used among trendy Japanese-inspired brands.
Every piece in Cubo Life comes in three colour variations: kawayan, itim, and puti. As of writing, Cubo Life offers collections for living, bedroom, and dining rooms. Its inaugural line, the Pamana Collection, features bed frames, TV stands, tables, and chairs of various sizes and functions.

On top of celebrating tradition, Cubo Life also draws inspiration from modern techniques. Its pieces are all as easy to assemble as they look, requiring zero tools and minimal building skills.
