There are many other beautiful places in the Philippines outside its capital, but these 5 destinations will let you enjoy weekend trips with great ease.

If you are planning your next local trip, Davao City is once again making a strong case for your itinerary.
Davao has been named the best city to travel in the Philippines for the second consecutive year based on the April 2026 World Travel Index rankings. It scored 75.66 this year, slightly higher than its 75.48 in 2025, showing steady improvement rather than a one time boost.
The ranking evaluates destinations based on safety, affordability, infrastructure, and tourism appeal. These are the same factors most travellers consider when choosing where to go, especially for stress free trips.
Davao stands out because of its strong reputation for safety and order. Many visitors describe it as calm, organised, and easy to explore, which makes it appealing for travellers who prefer a relaxed experience.
It is also known for being budget friendly. From food to transport and accommodation, Davao allows travellers to stretch their budget further compared to many other major cities in the country.
Infrastructure is another advantage. With well developed roads and accessible public spaces, getting around the city and nearby areas is generally convenient.

One of Davao’s biggest strengths is how it blends urban experiences with nature getaways.
In the city, travellers can enjoy cafés, restaurants, and shopping areas that feel lively but not overwhelming. Just a short trip away is Samal Island, known for beaches and clear waters. There are also nearby nature parks and mountain spots for cooler scenery.
Food is a major highlight, from fresh seafood and grilled dishes to the famous durian experience that many travellers try at least once.
Other Philippine cities in the top list include Puerto Princesa, Baguio, Cebu City, Dumaguete, Iloilo, Manila, Legazpi, Makati, and Lapu Lapu City, showing how diverse travel options are across the country.
On a global scale, the Philippines ranked 33rd out of 193 countries in the same index, reflecting growing international recognition as a travel destination.
Davao holding its top spot for two consecutive years shows one clear thing. It is not just trending, it is consistently delivering a travel experience that works for different types of travellers.
