For parents who travel often or work abroad, keeping an eye on your teen’s online activity can be challenging. Meta, the company behind Facebook and Messenger, has rolled out Teen Accounts worldwide, offering new safety features to help parents monitor and guide their teen’s social media use, wherever they are.
Meta announced the global activation of Teen Accounts on 25 September 2025. This expansion follows earlier launches on Instagram and in select regions, making Facebook and Messenger safer platforms for adolescent users aged 13 to 17.
Teen Accounts are designed specifically for young users. They include safety features that limit unwanted interactions and give teens more control over their social media experience. Key features include:
Restricted messaging so that teens can only receive messages from people they follow or have contacted before.
Content filtering that blocks sensitive or potentially harmful posts.
Screen time management including reminders to take breaks and optional limits to encourage balanced online use.
Quiet mode at night to reduce notifications and help teens rest.
Parental consent for under 16s allowing parents to adjust settings or maintain restrictions.
For Filipino parents travelling or working overseas, Teen Accounts provide practical support. They allow teens to stay connected with friends while parents have reassurance that online interactions are safer. Automated safety features reduce the need for constant monitoring. Parents can communicate with their teens in a safer environment, and educators can report safety concerns such as bullying through Meta’s School Partnership Program, ensuring timely intervention.
With Teen Accounts, teens can share their travel experiences, post updates from school trips or family holidays, and chat with friends without parents worrying about online safety. The rollout shows Meta’s commitment to helping parents guide their teen’s digital activity responsibly while allowing young users to enjoy social media.
This update is particularly useful for Filipino families who travel frequently or live abroad. It ensures teens have a safer online experience, while parents can have peace of mind and confidence that their children are protected.
