There are many other beautiful places in the Philippines outside its capital, but these 5 destinations will let you enjoy weekend trips with great ease.

If visiting Japan wasn't already on your travel bucket list, this might be the sign you've been waiting for.
Starting 7 Jul 2026, Noto Satoyama Airport in Ishikawa Prefecture will officially transform into the world's first Pokémon-themed airport. For a limited time, the airport will operate under the name "Noto Satoyama Pokémon With You Airport", bringing colourful Pokémon experiences to travellers until 30 Sep 2029.
The project was created through a partnership between Ishikawa Prefecture and the Pokémon With You Foundation, with the goal of supporting tourism and helping bring joy to communities affected by the 2024 Noto Peninsula earthquake.

Pokémon fans can look forward to much more than a few decorations. The airport is getting a complete Pokémon makeover, featuring themed artwork, giant Pokémon displays, exclusive merchandise, and special food items that can only be found at the airport.
One of the biggest highlights is a massive Pikachu display suspended inside the airport's atrium, surrounded by Flying-type Pokémon. In fact, travellers will be able to spot all 111 Flying-type Pokémon discovered as of 2026 throughout the airport.
Visitors arriving at the airport will also be welcomed by Pokémon monuments inspired by the artwork "Bright Future", which was originally created to support Noto's recovery efforts.

Hungry after your flight? The airport's restaurant will serve Pokémon-themed pancakes and drinks created exclusively for the attraction. Guests who order select meal sets will also receive limited edition placemats.
Meanwhile, the airport shop will offer exclusive souvenirs featuring original airport artwork and logos. Expect items such as T-shirts, keychains, luggage tags, and suitcase belts that make perfect keepsakes for Pokémon-loving travellers.

The Pokémon experience doesn't stop at the airport.
Special Pokémon-themed buses are expected to connect travellers to different attractions around the Noto Peninsula, making it easier to explore the region while enjoying even more Pokémon-themed experiences along the way.
The airport currently operates flights between Noto and Tokyo Haneda, making it a convenient side trip for travellers planning a Tokyo itinerary.

While the attraction is undoubtedly exciting for Pokémon fans, it also carries a deeper purpose. The airport makeover is part of broader efforts to support recovery and revitalise tourism in Noto following the devastating earthquake that struck the region in 2024. Organisers hope the project will attract visitors from across Japan and around the world while bringing smiles back to local communities.
For travellers who grew up watching Pokémon, this could easily become one of Japan's most unique airport experiences. And with the themed airport set to run until 2029, there is plenty of time to add it to your future Japan itinerary.
