Manila to Siargao for Only ₱2,000 via Ferry That Launches This October

After the outrage over plane tickets to Siargao costing up to PHP 30,000, travellers may soon have a cheaper way to reach the island. Starting October 20, 2GO Travel will launch a direct ferry route between Manila and Siargao.

The vessel Saint Francis Xavier can carry up to 1,900 passengers and will sail once a week. It departs Manila every Monday and arrives in Siargao the following day after a 28-hour voyage.

Fares start at PHP 2,000 for the most basic “super mega value” accommodation, a price point that could make it attractive for budget-conscious travellers. In contrast, recent airfare prices sparked criticism online, with even the government’s so-called capped fare of PHP 22,000 still being slammed as unaffordable.

The ferry is not a bare-bones ride either. Onboard amenities include a salon, spa, dining halls, café, souvenir stalls, nightly live band, karaoke rooms, an arcade, and a clinic. Passengers will even be greeted with a “welcome dance” upon boarding.

2GO’s business unit head Francis Chua said the vessel offers a “world-class” experience comparable to an international cruise ship. He added that the company is working with maritime agencies to identify more possible sea routes, though the current focus remains on Manila-Siargao.

Why this matters for Filipinos

At the end of the day, this isn’t just about travel convenience. It’s about fairness. Many Filipinos feel it’s unfair that only foreigners or wealthy travellers can afford to visit paradise spots like Siargao while locals are priced out of their own country’s islands. With airfares still outrageously high, this ferry route could finally give actual Filipinos a chance to enjoy Siargao without breaking the bank.

Sure, it’s a 28-hour journey. But if the choice is between bankrupting yourself for a plane ticket or taking the scenic, karaoke-filled route by sea, the decision for many might be obvious.
