Hurry, until 2 Jun 2019 only!

If your TikTok feed or IG Reels have been flooded lately with videos of trains driving through apartment buildings or skyscrapers glowing in the fog, you have seen Chongqing. It looks exactly like a scene from the movie Blade Runner 2049. This "cyberpunk" city is a real place, and getting there from Manila is about to get much easier. You will no longer need long layovers or extra flights to see this vertical city in person.
The Chinese Embassy in the Philippines announced that Air China will start direct flights between Manila and Chongqing on 1 May 2026. This new route is a practical update for Filipinos who want to visit a city where the "ground floor" might actually be twenty stories high.

To help you plan your trip, the airline has four flights every week. This makes it easier to fit a holiday into your schedule without wasting days in transit. Here are the specific times:
CA481 (Chongqing to Manila). Departs at 21:00 and arrives at 00:50 the next day. This flight runs every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday.
CA482 (Manila to Chongqing). Departs at 01:50 and arrives at 05:40. This flight runs every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday.

All times are local for both cities. The embassy said these flights also help travelers from China visit Philippine beaches like Boracay and Cebu, but for Filipinos, it is a direct path to the heart of Western China.

Chongqing is famous for its "8D" layout. Because the city is built on steep mountains, buildings are layered in ways that can be very confusing for a standard GPS. You might enter a building from a normal street and find out you are actually on the 10th floor looking down at another part of town.
The embassy noted that this new flight will help with business and trade. However, most visitors go for the unique views. You can visit the Liziba Station to see the train pass through a residential building or see Hongyadong at night, which is an 11-story building that glows with bright lights against the river.

This route is not just for city views. It also makes it easier to visit other famous spots like the Wulong Karst National Geology Park. For those interested in business, Chongqing is a major industrial city. This direct link is meant to improve ties and travel between the Philippines and China.
Earlier this year, the Department of Foreign Affairs also mentioned that some Chinese nationals can visit the Philippines visa-free for 14 days. For Filipinos, more direct routes usually mean better flight prices and more travel options as the connection becomes more popular.

This new direct flight is a great choice for Filipinos who want to see a city that feels like the future. By skipping connecting flights, you can spend more time exploring vertical streets and eating authentic spicy hotpot. As the May launch date gets closer, it is best to check the Air China website for the latest prices and booking info.
