All You Need to Know About Jollibee’s New Rumoured Meatless Chickenjoy

Like most restaurants of its kind in the world, Jollibee isn’t exactly the place you go to for eating healthy food. The fact is that in its nearly 50 years in the food and beverage industry, it never claimed to be one. And many of us grew accepting this truth while still enjoying its scrumptious Pinoy-style offerings at reasonable prices.

But what if we told you that this may no longer be the case? That the fast-food giant might soon introduce its first healthy Jollibee Chickenjoy (possibly among other meals) to Jollibee menus around the world?

Why there could be a meatless Jollibee Chickenjoy soon

The news came after Cargill Philippines, Jollibee’s prime meat supplier, announced that it plans to launch plant-based proteins. This would cater to the growing health-conscious market in the country as the global food company already has participation in offering meat-free options internationally.

“These alternative proteins give us consumers healthy choices, and these types of development for alternative proteins and innovation are the things that excite Cargill as a food company… we are also looking into that,” Cargill Philippines President Sonny Catacutan told ANC’s Market Edge in an interview.

“I think there’s already an ongoing discussion and interest because of our participation somewhere else. But as to the date, maybe that’s still in the works,” Catacutan also added.

In an article by Spot, Jollibee has clarified that Cargill Philippines’ plans do not involve those of the fast-food company at the moment. However, the thought of having healthier and more ethical food options at the chain, whether’s it’s a meatless Jollibee Chickenjoy or a plant-based burger like that of other brands, is definitely something worth getting excited about in the days ahead.
