Mi TV Stick: Upgrade Your TV to a Smart TV on a Budget

If you’re looking for better ways to enjoy your days at home, then you’re probably considering investing in a smart TV — and rightfully so. After all, this one intelligent device can take you places through a screen. Want to visit South Korea? Watch K-dramas on Netflix. Want to learn about other cultures? Watch vlogs on YouTube.

There is, of course, one setback when it comes to buying smart TVs. They’re hella expensive. But the good news is, we found a way to hack our way around the hefty prices. Introducing: the Mi TV Stick.

What is the Mi TV Stick?

The premise is that the Mi TV Stick can transform your regular TV into a smart TV, as long as your existing TV has an HDMI port. Once connected, you will be able to access Netflix, YouTube, Prime, HBO, Disney+, and all the other streaming services available on typical smart TVs. It also lets you download limitless apps from Google Play, including Twitch, Spotify, WeVerse, and VLive (#iykyk).

Light and portable

Weighing less than 30g, the Mi TV Stick is travel-friendly. You can bring it with you during hotel staycations or — hear me out — you can lug it around your home. In other words, if you have a TV in your living room and another one in your bedroom, you can convert both of them (albeit not simultaneously) with just one stick.

Voice commands

Powered by Android TV, the Mi TV Stick also has a Bluetooth remote with a Google Assistant feature. This means it receives voice commands with just a press of a button. (Hey Google, tell me a dad joke.)

Screencasting

You can Chromecast content from your other devices directly to your screen. That said, you can also mirror your screen outside Google Chrome, so whatever you see on your device, you can view HD on your TV. (We don’t recommend illegal video streaming, but best believe that casting it certainly heightens the experience.)

Audio

What about the audio, you ask? The Mi TV Stick also supports DTS and Dolby multichannel HD audio decoding. This means you can expect stereo surround sound if you have good speakers.

How to set it up

All you have to do is plug the Mi TV Stick into your TV’s HDMI port and then connect it to your WiFi. Then, you can start exploring as you would a smart TV!

If Disney were creative enough to let Mulan and Melody procreate, Danielle would be that child. From an early age, she has dreamt of becoming a purposeful revolutionary... and an unruly mermaid. While Danielle hasn't held a sword in her lifetime, she feels powerful enough with her byline. Her creative energy is fueled by many things: the quiet right before the rest of the world wakes up, the orange sky as the sun rises during an uncrowded morning surf, the beautiful bitter taste of black coffee, and the threatening reminder of a pending deadline.
