If you’re taking the MRT-3 this weekend, here’s some good news! Rides are free on Sunday, October 26, but only for a few hours.
The Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced that the MRT-3 will be offering free rides from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and again from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The initiative is part of the country’s Consumer Welfare Month celebration, which happens every October under Proclamation No. 1098, Series of 1997.
The DOTr said the move was made upon the request of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to mark the celebration and give commuters a little treat, or let’s be honest, a tiny breather from daily fare expenses.

For regular days, MRT-3 operates from 4:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., running along the North Avenue to Taft Avenue route. Travel time for the entire line usually takes around 30 to 40 minutes, depending on crowd volume.
Fares range from ₱13 to ₱28, depending on distance. You can pay using stored value cards, single-journey tickets, or the Beep card.
So if you’re planning to go out this Sunday, maybe line up a little earlier or time your trip right. The free ride window won’t last long, but hey, a free train ride is still a win.
