If you were flying in or out of Manila’s Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) on 20 May 2024, you might have encountered some unexpected delays. A NAIA software glitch at the airport’s air traffic management centre (ATMC) caused temporary disruptions to flight operations.

The issue began around 11:27 am, causing a ripple effect throughout the busy airport. Prioritising passenger safety, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) took immediate action. They implemented a temporary restriction on flight operations, increasing the space between departing flights.
While the software problem caused inconvenience for many, safety always comes first. By 2:02pm, CAAP had thankfully resolved the technical glitch, allowing normal flight operations to resume. This meant that while roughly 36 domestic and 20 international flights were affected by delays or cancellations as of 3pm, the situation was improving.
Even though the technical issue has been resolved, there may still be some lingering effects. Passengers flying in or out of NAIA in the coming hours or even tomorrow may experience delays as airlines work to recover and adjust their schedules. Expect busier than usual pre-departure areas and baggage claim sections due to the earlier disruptions.
Here are some travel tips to navigate this situation smoothly:
